Thousands of Union Members across Pennsylvania have been working tirelessly to bring attention to great Labor candidates. County after county, from Allegheny to Reading, Montgomery to Lawrence. Union Members are showing up and showing out for this all-important election.

Have You signed up to volunteer yet? What are You waiting for? There are a variety of ways You can help get out the vote for pro-labor candidates this year.

Union Avoidance Tactics

One of the earliest anti-Union actions of the Trump Administration was to repeal the ‘persuader rule,’ an Obama Administration policy that required businesses to disclose when they were using outside agencies to prevent organizing. Businesses use contractors for anti-Union persuasion 75% of the time.

States privatizing employment services

In the first week of October alone, over 800 million people filed new unemployment claims in America, four times the amount of unemployed prior to the pandemic. When people file for unemployment they are referred to various agencies for support and some that may help them get back into their career or even refine their job seeking skills.

Gig Workers

There are approximately 55 million Gig Workers, or Independent Contractors, in the United States workforce. There are benefits that many clearly find in Gig Work, but some employers use this classification to take advantage of workers.

Being an Independent Contractor means you have should have a lot to say about the dynamics and conditions of your work. For example, many would think this kind of work offers you the ability to choose the best way to conduct your work and set your rates.

Union sisters and brothers know better than anyone that we are stronger together. We all have our differences, but the tireless fight for workers is something we all have in common.

During these trying times, we want to get the word out safely. We have developed a variety of opportunities for you to do your part to get out the vote for Pro-Labor candidates this year.

“The election is like a race,” said PA AFL-CIO President Rick Bloomingdale, “you don’t slow down before the finish line, you run through the tape. We need you all to run through the tape!”

Undermining Job Security for Service Workers

In 2009, then President Barak Obama issued Executive Order 13495, “Nondisplacement of Qualified Workers Under Service Contracts.” This provided that when a service contract expires, the next recipient of the contract will need to offer the original employees the first choice to refuse or accept employment under the new contract.

When was the last time you checked your voter registration? During this important election cycle, we cannot let anything go to chance.
