AFL-CIO & American Airlines will team up to deliver more supplies to Puerto Rico -- donate now!

AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka announced early this week that the AFL-CIO and American Airlines would cooperate in flying up to 60,000 pounds of donated goods from the Philadelphia International Airport to Puerto Rico, starting next week. The donations will be received by the Puerto Rico AFL-CIO and distributed by them to union and community members.

In the spirit of solidarity, IAM Local 1776 has generously volunteered their hall as the collection-point for donated goods. Deliveries should be sent to:

IAM Local 1776 will make their hall open to receive deliveries on the following dates:
Monday, December 4 and Tuesday, December 5, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Wednesday, December 6 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM
Thursday, December 7 from 9:00 AM to 12 Noon.

High-priority goods include:

  • High protein food such as canned tuna and chicken, or beans
  • Non-perishable staples such as rice
  • Baby food/formula
  • Solar lights
  • Batteries (especially D-cell)
  • Large tarps (20' x 20', 20' x 30')
  • Baby or adult diapers
  • Over-the-counter medications
  • Personal hygiene products

NOTE: as the holidays are approaching, please also consider donating new toys

Please Do NOT donate any of the following goods, which cannot be shipped via airplane:

  • Used generators
  • Used gas/oil equipment
  • Propane
  • Lithium batteries
  • Aerosol cans
  • Alcohol
  • Live Animals
  • High value items ($1,500 value or higher)
  • Strike-anywhere matches
  • Gas/oil/petroleum products
  • Household cleaners
  • Bleach
  • Paints
  • Perfume
  • Tobacco
  • Firearms or firearm parts
  • Other dangerous goods, including dry ice

Before sending your supplies, please contact Yael Foa at yfoa(at)aflcio(dot)org to so that we can keep track of the amount of cargo being send to American Airlines.
